Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
