Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with results like these.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
