Around twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after powerful weather events passed over the region, generating strong winds reaching 109km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Damage

Locals witnessed large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were attempting to repair energy supply throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units working to handle the extensive power failures.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

Simultaneously, around one thousand energy customers in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area experienced its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams handled nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple rescue reports
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, over 28,000 power users in Victoria were without power.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were predicted to continue along significant areas of eastern Queensland this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing storm activity predicted across different parts of both states.

Medical Alert

Health officials warned that there was an increased chance of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.

This warning comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
