Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“That was unfortunate. It was kind of an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was completely accidental, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect finger,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. This is sincere. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
