Fans Call for Arrest of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are urging that a man who jumped a barricade and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared video shows the Australian man pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet accompanied by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to appear on the next day. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed includes recordings of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted guards at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while others called for online networks to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In videos circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of attendees had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-film version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End production Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, earning a pair for outstanding attire and set decoration.
