Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was āin good spiritsā during their latest talk.
āWhat reassures me, is that heās in good spirits,ā Glenn said Wednesday. āHis wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.ā
The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.
āNot certain at the moment,ā Glenn remarked. āHowever, I can share, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.ā
Authorities shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned itās not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts āa tonā since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.
āWhat immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,ā Glenn remarked. āAnd Iām thinking about his wife, Iām thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
āThereās a process to this, that I wonāt detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.ā
Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of the teamās updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.
āHeās been a part of what weāre doing,ā Glenn said. āIn fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.ā
Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houstonās practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
