The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

ā€œThere's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,ā€ explained Cappa. ā€œIt's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.ā€

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
