The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
